Anna Hrachovec, creator of Mochimochi Land, speaks about play and creativity this Saturday in Potomac.

We're always impressed by the abundance of opportunities to try something new in and around Potomac, Bethesda, and nearby neighborhoods. Some weeks, we think there's no way we'll uncover anything we haven't already shared. And then we find a knit-toy designer from Sesame Street coming to Potomac, a line dancing night in Bethesda, or a summer reading challenge for adults.

From speakers who offer a new way to see the world to artists, makers, and local businesses creating opportunities to learn, connect, and create, there's always something new to discover.

We hope this week's issue helps you find it.

THIS ISSUE’S TOP PICK

Art, music, performances, and a few reasons to spend the evening out

🎭 A Coffee Shop, Some Poets, and Romantic Chaos

June 5–14 | F. Scott Fitzgerald Theatre, Rockville

Gilbert and Sullivan’s Patience gets a fresh update at Rockville Civic Center Park, where the story has been reimagined inside a mid-century university coffee shop.

This version follows Patience as a barista caught in the middle of aesthetic-obsessed poets, attention-seeking cricket players, and plenty of romantic confusion. It’s satirical, whimsical, and charming, with the kind of theatrical energy that may appeal if you like Mamma Mia, Kiss Me, Kate, or The Drowsy Chaperone.

A little fashion, a little satire, a lot of lovesick nonsense.

🎬 Mamma Mia! Under the Stars

Fri, June 12, 6:30–9:30 pm | Cabin John Village, Potomac

Mamma Mia! is hitting the big screen at Cabin John Village for an easy Friday night outside. Bring a blanket and settle in on the Community Green. The movie begins at sunset, but you can arrive early and make it dinner, too. Pre-order a pizza from Colony Grill and claim your spot. Free.

🎭The Play No One Wrote — Including the Cast

Sat, June 13, 8 pm | Precipice Improv @ Imagination Stage, Bethesda

This is not the kind of improv where performers play a few quick games and call it a night. Precipice Improv Theater creates a full comic play live, built from audience suggestions at the beginning of the show.

You’ll offer a setting, relationship, or idea, then watch four veteran improvisers turn that spark into a one-night-only story with characters, stakes, and an actual beginning, middle, and end. No two performances are the same, which is very much the point.

Go if you like smart comedy, live theater, or the slightly thrilling feeling that no one in the room knows exactly what is going to happen next. Additional dates available. $23+

🛋️ Step Inside a Sanctuary for Connection

Sun, June 14, 1–5 pm | The Mansion at Strathmore, N. Bethesda

What helps us feel safe, rooted, and connected in a world that can feel increasingly lonely? That’s the question behind Sanctuary of Solace, a one-day multimedia installation at Strathmore created by the 2026 Arts and Social Justice Fellowship class.

Nine high school fellows spent six months exploring identity, home, safety, technology, and the need for “third spaces,” then turned that work into an interactive art experience inside the Mansion. Visitors can move through the exhibition, share reflections, and join talkbacks with the student artists about their creative process and calls to action. The cohort includes young artists from North Potomac and Rockville, including Natalie Chen, Rihanna Pabai, and Sofiia Remizova. Free

Fri, June 26 , 5:30–6:30 pm | Main Street Art Gallery, Rockville

Her butterfly series is the heart of her work: forms that dissolve and reappear within richly textured layers, speaking to change and the quiet strength that comes with it.
